1973 Jeep CJ-5

The Free Jeep that cost $12,600!

The CJ-5s ran from 1955 until 1983, but the 1972-1975 years are commonly referred to as 'Intermediates' because they feature some unique design changes.  This Jeep lay forlorn in a co-worker's backyard for twelve years before I became a Good Home.  With a club member's help we drug the Jeep home in March 2006 and began the restoration.

Brake & Fuel components were all shot and needed complete replacement. There was no wiring harness or gauges, and thus needed installing. The suspension was rusty.  The tub was in surprisingly good shape except for rusted out rocker panels and some on the rear corners.

Modifications & Upgrades

Black Diamond 3" military wrap suspension.

Crown Racing Brakelines

Powermaster Alternator

35" BFG M/Ts on Pro Comp steel wheels

An almost "After" Shot ... a little more to go...

Another "Before Shot".  What a difference.

Paint is Blush Rose #745651 from DuPont's Hot Hues collection.

The Jeep right before the paint.  The original color was Matador Red.  The Jeep already has its new suspension, brake components, wheels & tires.  The top is an old top slated for replacement, and the pipe side steps and bumper is also on the hit list.

I bought replacement panels which were welded in.

Rear view of Jeep.

Herculined Underside, Crown brakelines, new fuel tank & skid and the new suspension are seen.

The Dana 20 twin-sticked to make shifting easier than the original linkage.
